Removing default My Device tab?

If you don't upload device data, the default "My Device" tab only shows a picture and a suggestion to turn on device upload. You can add a second "My Device" tab that does work, but it takes up one tab slot which I would like to use for something else.

Anyone know a way to delete the default My Device tab (bottom left)?

  • I do not know whether I understand, since I have no "My Device" option among the bottom tabs, but normally you can edit the tabs after tapping the "... More" option, and then the Edit button at the top right of the "More" screen. You can then remove, add, and rearrange the items of the bottom menu.

Thanks for checking, but editing the tabs does not show an option to remove or change the My Device tab on the left. Only thing I can do is add another My Device tab, and that second one works.

I suppose because there is no data to fill a "Home" screen, they show only a reminder for the user that they have not enabled uploading.

No problem though, it is just very annoying.

  • Just put something else instead. As I wrote, I do not have any "My Device" tab at all, in my bottom menu

Sorry, I was not clear I guess. It cannot be renoved or replaced at all.

  • Strange, I have just the Home option on left-most position that cannot be removed. Does not your left My Device act as the Home button in fact? (having just the wrong icon assigned to it). If so, then I recommend clearing the cache of the app, or reinstalling it.

Thanks! You did help me out with that idea!

If I enable Data Upload once, I get a Home tab on the left. If I then disable Data Upload again, the Home tab is replaced by a My Device tab that properly works!

It is probably just a flag that has to be set by enabling upload, otherwise the app gets that reminder screen instead of the home screen.

Android GCM version 5.1 only!! NOT working on 5.2.

Set your device on Airplane mode. Enable Data Upload. "My Device" on the left is replaced by "Home".

Disable Data Upload. Set Airplane mode on device Off. 'Home' is replaced by 'My Device' without a nag screen and works properly.

    Thanks Trux!

  • Just out of curiosity, why are you disabling the Data Upload?

I have no need for it, and don't want such very private data as my heartrate and sleep data on any other server than my own. Occupational paranoia, seen too many (potential) mishaps.

  • But in such case, with no data on Garmin's servers, the Garmin Connect app is pretty much useless, or isn't it? Why bothering with it at all?
