Create a Course no longer recognizes trails/paths

Ever since the latest Garmin Connect app overhaul, create a course no longer recognizes trails/paths. I live near Peachtree City, GA where there are 100's of miles of golf cart/bike/running paths that create a course used to recognize, it was wonderful. I've waited awhile since the app overhaul hoping they would fix it with a subsequent update but it hasn't happened. Any suggestions? No changes in watches and all maps are up to date via Garmin express

  • The option for "Bike Lanes and Trails" exists only in the Garmin Connect Web interface https://connect.garmin.com/modern/courses

    Under map layers icon

This is equivalent to Google Maps displaying "Biking"

As you state, the option does not exist in the app. TBH, I don't remember that it ever existed. But I could be wrong, as I typically create courses using a computer and the web interface. I checked my old iPad which is unable to update past GC version 4.42 which was released in 2021. The option for trails is not on that version either.

My suggestion is to contact Garmin Support and report it as an issue. They might say it is working as designed and suggest you submit a request using the Share Ideas site. Meanwhile, you can use the web interface, although if you don't have access to a computer, using the web interface on a mobile device can be a bit clunky. Once you create the course using the web interface, it will also be available to view on the app.

  • I am not sure I understand the issue correctly. Is it that trails are not displayed anymore on the map? Or that the routing function does not route over these trails?

I could not tell a difference to the old connect in my tests. I don't think any changes were done to course planner. (Which is unfortunate, because it is super bad and could benefit from an overhaul Smile ).

  • Thanks for the reply, the trails are all displayed on the map in green like they always have been, but you can no longer route over any of those trails regardless of which type of activity I select.

  • I appreciate the reply, I'll try to go through Garmin support because it used to work flawlessly. I tried to use the web interface, but had the same results. If you're bored, on the web interface search for Peachtree city, GA. You'll see a ton of green trails, but it will only route over the main roads. Thanks for your help!

  • Interesting. Google maps is not showing any trails in my area, but the routing engine still finds them and routes over them.

Could you share the coordinates of one if these trails? I would like to try on my end.

  • search for Peachtree city, GA

I also live in Georgia, I did and it works on the web interface.

  • City is Peachtree City, GA.

    Latitude 33.378658

    Longitude -84.55352

That should get you in the area, from there all the paths are in green. I used to be able to route over them, now they just move over to the closest main road.

  • I can get it to work with no issues using the web interface. Make sure you use the routing option "Follow Roads," rather than popular routes, even though they aren't exactly roads.

  • My hero, tried all the options on the app, didn't work. Like you said, web interface works when you change from Follow Popular Routes to Follow Roads. I'll submit support request, thank you for helping my find a workaround for the time being!

  • I could reproduce your issue in the app. It refuses to route over the green paths, regardless of the settings.
