Activities have all disappeared on the app

My Garmin app used to allow me to input activities on it, and very easily. The "upgrade" has stopped it all. I can add activities on my laptop, which does then appear on the app. However, the steps I have been told to take on the app simply aren't there any more. My tracker has become an expensive pedometer.

Garmin says my tracker is not compatible with this on the app and it has never been there. Funnily enough, it was until the "upgrade". It is the worst upgrade I have ever seen in my life. Has anyone else had this problem? Please don't tell me about "in focus", resetting and activities being there. They aren't any longer. Only on my laptop, which is a complete waste of time.

  • My Garmin app used to allow me to input activities on it, and very easily.

If you mean adding an activity manually, then you can do it for example in the Menu » Activities » Create Manual Activity

Which Garmin device do you own? If you have no device added to the app, then I could imagine that many of the features in the app are missing.

BTW, is this the reason you are adding activities manually? Normally there is no need to add activities manually, it is much simpler and better, using the device to log them.

  • No, it is not quite that. There used to be something that said "add activities". You clicked on it, clicked the activity and it asked for specific data like date, time, distance etc. That has gone completely. Even on the laptop home screen I can only add Gym and cycling. All the racket sports have disappeared.

    It is a Vivosmart 4

  • When you use the function "Menu » Activities » Create Manual Activity", you can select any of the activities you wish. Still, it is much better recording the activity with your watch. If your watch does not support the desired sport directly, record it as somethin approximately similar (i.e. Cardio for indoor sports, or Run for outdoor activities) and then changing the activity type in the app (select Edit in the activity menu). In this way, you will have the metric like HR, Training Effect, Training Load, etc, recorded.

  • I have always "added activities", which was an option. It is no longer an option, except to do the occasional activity and key in every single manual field.

On top of this today, it recorded just 6800 steps for a walk which was over 14000 steps. My friend has a more upmarket Garmin and our steps are usually very similar. So now I don't even have a pedometer. I will have to buy a different tracker. I am so fed up with the ridiculous changes they have done. It has rendered my tracker completely useless.

To add activities from the new home screen, first verify that you have In Focus toggled on. Then add at least 1 of the Activity Trends cards.

From then on, in the In Focus section tap on the '+' to add an activity. Are you not able to do this? Or are you referring to something else? Maybe a screenshot of what you're seeing would help us understand.

  • Try it on the web site - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/settings/homeSettings

See if you can add In Focus/Running Trends as suggested above. If you're able to do it there and save the changes, go back to the app and test. If still no joy, reinstall the app. Make sure you see your vivosmart 4 in the app under More > Garmin Devices.

If still nothing after all this, then contact Garmin Support - https://support.garmin.com, Use the chat or calling options for the fastest response. I know you said you already contacted them, but something's not right. They shouldn't just close out the ticket without a resolution.

Please let us know what happens, as I am curious what this could be.

  • The problem is that I have a life! I have spent hours on this and got nowhere. I am just going to leave Garmin completely. I stayed because I liked the app so much. However, I hate the new version, which simply is not fit for purpose.
