Where can I find the option to sync automatically or set the sync frequency for Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2? I can't find it in the Garmin Connect App.

I want to choose the sync frequency for my Garmin Epix Pro Gen 2 or sync automatically. It only seems to sync manually if I open the Garmin Connect App. My data is out of date on my Stridekick challenge so I would like it to sync about every minute or to change the frequency

  • It should sync automatically by default. Are you sure your phone's battery optimisations don't kill the Garmin Connect app when it's in the background? (Settings - Applications - Garmin Connect Mobile - Battery - set to "unlimited", this may depend a little on your phone)

  • Thanks but I don't really want to run the app all the time. Can't the garmin sync to the cloud automatically? And isn't there a way to set the sync frequency. I'm surprised at this lack of functionality on such a high end device. Can it sync via Bluetooth and without wifi? Even a cheap fitbit can easily sync

  • but I don't really want to run the app all the time.

It is advisable to run the app in the background. Other data is also regularly updated in the background. Such as the CPE data for the GPS Almanac. This data is only valid for a short time. If your watch does not receive the latest CPE data, it will take a very long time to receive a GPS fix.

  • Can't the garmin sync to the cloud automatically?

It does, as long as Garmin Connect runs. Alternatively, if your watch has Wi-Fi and it is set up and functional, it can sync directly to the cloud without Garmin Connect. It cannot sync over BT without some app receiving the data - that's why the GC app must run all the time in order to allow the syncing.

  • Is the CPE data also synchronized via wifi? So without the Connect app and without connecting the watch to Express?

  • Is the CPE data also synchronized via wifi? So without the Connect app?

Sorry, I do not know. I do not have any watch with Wi-Fi. However, the CPE file is valid for up to 14 days, so occasional connecting to GC or GE would be sufficient even if it did not sync over Wi-Fi

  • However, the CPE file is valid for up to 14 days

    Yes,

    up to

In reality, it is more like 5-7 days.

  • Is the CPE data also synchronized via wifi?

    Well, finally I found it:

Why Is My Garmin Watch Not Acquiring GPS Satellites? | Garmin Customer Support

Syncing your device either through the Garmin Connect App, Garmin Express program, or when a compatible device connects to a previously configured Wi-Fi network will ensure that it has the latest available satellite location information.

  • Even the "cheap fitbit" you mention requires the phone's Fitbit Health app to be running in the background for automatic sync to work. (As trux mentioned, bluetooth sync to work, there has an app running on the phone doing the other end of the sync.)

But it's possible that in case of Fitbit, the Fitbit Health app could be automatically excluded from battery optimisations (i.e., it always runs in the background), since Fitbit and Android are both owned by Google...
