Switch back step by step guide

I take no responsibility for you messing anything up. Below are the steps I took to get back my Garmin Connect.

Uninstall connect
Download Garmin Connect 4.77.1 from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/garmin/garmin-connect-mobile/garmin-connect-mobile-4-77-1-release/
Install APK installer from the app store
Grant APK installer the necessary permissions
Install the downloaded Garmin Connect 4.77.1
Enjoy the good old interface. F the new one.

Edit:

You must disable auto updates for connect by going to it in the play store, click the three dots and uncheck "Auto update".
Default settings should be fine in apk installer.
Not all phones require apk installer, some phones have functions/software to install apk files.
4.77.1 is not a must, choose any previous version of your liking.

This works. Thanks For those not familiar with the process, just be careful of all the popup ads. Make sure you don't install anything that is not needed/wanted. Also, be sure to toggle off "join beta."

Does this restore all your old settings too, or do you have to redo all of them?

You would have to reconfigure. And I can't seem to get it to work. It complains about downloading the device list.

Just downgraded to 4.77.1. The only thing I had to set were permissions. Everything was as it was before the "new" look. No reconfig needed for me. I have a constant message for server outage, but I guess it has to do with access problems we all have right now.

Why would you need a seperate APK installer app for this? You can install apk's on pretty much any Android phone by simply clicking it in the file manager, right?

If you go back to an earlier version then not to 4.77.x but to 4.76 - in 4.77 and 4.77.1 the music control does not work properly .

Not with split APKs.

Yeah then JUST download the apk file and not the bundle, but no need to install one of the many 3rd party apps. www.apkmirror.com/.../

Phew I am back. Garmin has wasted about an hour of my time. If not fixed will have to move. My forerunner135 is slowing in battery anyway.

This worked for me until the app updated overnight, seems like it would be a hassle to keep fighting with avoiding updates so I'm just going to hope that the huge outcry from all of us that they need to reverse this will work out.
