I got my watch and it's giving me numerous more steps and i'm actually taking. It's giving me over 300 steps. Just walking from my bedroom to my living room about twenty steps.

There is no calibration for steps. The watch simply detects any periodical movements, and counts them as steps if they come in the frequency expected at steps. It just discards short series of up to ~20 steps, to avoid counting random movements.
Your 300 "steps" were probably recorded already in the bedroom, while you moved the hand wearing the watch.
