Temporarily Pairing a Venu 3 with Another GC Account - Will There Be a Loss of Data or Settings?

Hi,

I want to temporarily pair a Venu 3 with another GC account.

If I try to do so (search for new devices on the other phone with the other account and select the found Venu 3), I get the following message:

At that time I chose "Disconnect".

What "previous device data" will be deleted if I connect the device anyway?

Like, if I pair the Venu 3 with the original account/phone later, will I have lost any setting or any data I had before? Or will I just not have (access to) the data collected while the Venu 3 was paired/connected to the other account/phone, like the heart rate and so on.

Thanks

P.S.:

I'd sync (hit the refresh button in GC) immediately before connecting to the other account anyways, so the HR and other data collected before would have been transferred to the GC account.

P.P.S.:

If I disable bluetooth on the originally connected phone before pairing the Venu 3 with the other phone, will these two even be un-paired?

  • Disconnecting the device from the GC account, connecting it to another one, and the reconnecting it back is not such a big problem - no data will be lost from either of the accounts.

The problems is elsewhere - to use the device with another user, you need to reset it to factory defaults before and after the account exchange. If you omit resetting the device before each of the account changes, the newly acquired metrics of the new user will be based on the training history of the original owner, and oppositely the account of the new user will be contaminated with old data of the original user. And the same will happen in the opposite direction when switching the accounts back.

And if you do reset the watch before the change, then the operation will erase all settings, all history, and all the metrics the watch learned about the original user till that moment. The watch will need to be reconfigured after each account change, and it will take several weeks to reestablish all the diverse baselines.

So frankly told, I strongly discourage you from using a pre-owned watch. If you temporarily need to use a different watch than yours, then rather get either a new one, or at least make sure that the original owner won't mind having to reset the watch upon you give it back to him.

  • "no data will be lost from either of the accounts."

But then what does the warning message mean?

    Also:

It would be the same user, just with a different account.

  • But then what does the warning message mean?

It means the device association will be deleted from the original account, and it will be connected to the other account.

  • Perhaps you should explain why you want to use two accounts. We may be able to recommend you better solutions.

  • Let's say I want to be able to take ECG measurements including getting the PDF report but without having to permanently switch my GC account to multi-factor-authorization.

  • The MFA actually does not force you to verify your identity each time when you use the app. Once you sign in, you stay signed. It is only the web interface, and the forum that require a re-login frequently (once or twice a week in my case). So if the repeated authentications are your concern, and you mostly use just the app, then it makes no difference whether you use the MFA or not.

Otherwise, yes, you can switch to another account just to take the ECG, but by using two accounts, it will be even less comfortable, because besides having to sign in again and again at each account switching, you will also have to remove the device from one account, add to another one, and then all that back again. Personally, I would not do it.

  • Do I have to remove it from the usually used account, though?

Can I not just switch off the bluetooth on that phone?

    The problem is the "permanently".

If I enable that, I will never be able to go back.

If I use a second account, I can always just stop doing that. Maybe I'll enable it some time in the future, but now? For forever?

You can try, but I suspect it will create some havoc anyway. Most data (but not necessarily all) will probably land on the account that you paired with the watch the last. So at least make sure it is your main account.

  • Hmm... that still doesn't explain the "delete previous device data".
