Garmin Connect failing due to bug

Today I ran my first 10k. After trying to sync the watch Forerunner 55 with Garmin connect (android) the app failed and crashed. It's been doing that all day. I tried clearing the cache, clearing data and reinstalling with no success. Somehow the watch synced with Garmin and I can see the race metrics on the web, but when the app tries to load activity data, it crashes again. Any ideas on what to do?

  • Can you see the activity on Garmin Connect Web? If not, try syncing over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express. If yes, then please post a link to it, and we can try to see whether there is anything suspicious on that activity.

  • Yes, the activity sync'ed but wouldn't load on the app. On Monday (the following day), the app worked just fine, since it didn't find an activity for the day.

    This is the activity https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14450021138

  • This is the activity

Hm, after a quick check I do not see anything suspicious, except that the activity is called "Media maratón VCP 2024", but is only 10 km long - was it that, or is 32 km missing from the track? (Edit: actually you wrote it was a 10k run, so that is not the problem)

You could try installing Garmin Connect on another device (phone or tablet), and see whether it works there, to exclude is a problem on the phone (for example insufficient memory).

You could also try using an alternative internet connection (i.e. Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, or vice versa), and see whether it crashes too.

Another possibility would be testing it with an older version of the app. Disable the auto-update, remove the app, and install and older version from apkmirror.com

If it does not help, or you have no possibility to test it elsewhere, then I recommend reaching out to the Product Support at https://support.garmin.com. If you (or the Support) find the culprit,  please remember to report back - it could help other people in future, researching the same topic.

  • I found the culprit be loading the activity because the next day, when the activity was not in the homepage of GC, it worked just fine. I pasted the screenshot below. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the same day, tried wifi and mobile data with no better luck.

Anyway, thanks for your help :-)
