About the new Beta Interface...

I have been using the new Beta UI for a bit now, and I must say, I hate it.

Here are my thoughts, and I am wondering if others feel the same or differently.

1. In Focus: I don't see the point of this. It basically shows a taller slideshow container with a maximum of 5 items. I don't see any additional information than wat was available on the tiles before, but now the information for 4 out of the 5 items is hidden, requiring me to scroll to see it. Why hide the same data that was available at a glance before, and make me scroll to see it?

2. At a Glance: This is now limited to 8 items. It requires me to click on See All to see the rest of my data. Why?

It makes no sense, since if I didn't want to see an item before, I could just uncheck it and hide it.

The vertical tiles are fine, but the rest feels more like someone new came in and wants to change things, for the sake of change. But it is not a good change, and it will impact my decision to stick with Garmin in the future.

Having said all that about the poor usability, I should complement the design itself, which is a nice refresh.

  • They claim that the new Connect look is based on  "Public feedback" yet on EVERY hiking, climbing, cycling, Outdoor activities, Bushcraft  Forum/group  the new look is Universally HATED with a passion.   So yeah Garmin who did you actually listen too??? It certain was NOT the public who use your software...

  • I absolutely agree with  user  (and all the others that complain)  about the new Garmin Connect Screen on my Android. It is awkward.

I have always commended the designers of the old Garmin Connect layout (I am myself in software for industry) for a very well designed layout. But now, with this new version you have basically made just about every mistake one can make. I will just mention one: If you introduce more clicks or more scroll actions to get to viewing some data, that is bad. Fewer clicks is better (obviously). Of course there is a trade off between more information on one screen and how small it is, but the previous Garmin Connect screen had that balanced quite well.

What is very annoying is that the new version is shoved under your nose, with no option to choose.

Just give me the old version back. Where is that option?

  • Reinstall previous version buddy thats what I did..

  • If anyone wants too reinstall the previous version, here you go www.dropbox.com/.../Garmin-Connect-Mobile-4.77.1.apk

  • The new interface might look better and be a bit more performant (did not really notice that myself but others claimed that).. but currently its more cumbersome to use..

    - Previously i could scroll from top to bottom and was able to see everything.  Now i have to stop several times and side-swipe (in focus, daily exercises..) or go into an other screen (all glances).  That totally breaks the "workflow" of just getting an overview.

    - I can't reorder events and trainings.  I dont really use them much but have them enabled for the web-interface which also forces it to show on the mobile version.  I'd like them to show last or something on mobile.

I doubt garmin will revert this change, so: given the new interface i'd rather opt to have "only" glances but unlimited and for "everything" then what we got currently.  I want to see my segments again, gear, records and more again.. make all that, 'in focus', yesterday into glances and don't limit them at all..

  • the new update is really bad. i want to se more on first page. dont want to click to stress to se more info. old layout was much smarter

  • I don't even understand why HR is not part of the focus tabs!!!    I would rather have focus on health stats not useless trends that not everyone uses, none of the changes make sense at all...

  • In another thread they comment that things are still in the same place and that is part of the problem, they are difficult to find. I really use the app for little more than synchronizing activities, but the rest is practically unusable. You can't easily search for previous activities (something important in cycling and I suppose in outdoor activities, like running, hiking). There are very hidden options, in short, for those who do not have a computer at hand to use the web version, the app is a real hassle. I think it would be very positive to solve some of the issues in which the app is weak and not make a facelift that no one has asked for

  • Mine has just changed and I hate it. Can I get the old interface back, it was much clearer and useful
