Venu2 won't record distance for Bike activity. But ok for Walk. Both use same GPS settings.

I have a new venu2 watch. And I can't get it to record distance when on a bike ride. It works ok for Walk activities. Both walk and bike use the same GPS settings. And I can't 'see' where else I can configure howe to recode distance for the bike activity.

Have looked for firmware update. But the MBL app does not show any update required.

Stephen.

  • Could you post a link to one of the cycling activities? Do you use any speed or cadence sensors on the bike?

  • I can later on (on aircraft at present).

I was just using watch. It does show speed which means the GPS is probably working.  I had an old watch which is no longer have working. And for short ride did not use sensors with it. For longer rides I use my edge 1030 for Bike activitya.  But I thought the venu2 would work for short rides.

  • To be specific. This bike only has cadance sensor. Other bike has both, but normally I use the edge 1030 on that bike (ie carbon ride bike… via shopping e-bike).

  • There is no map at that activity. It means that GPS was not working. Either it was disabled (i.e. in the global settings, in the activity settings, or through a Power Mode), or the ephemeris (EPO/CPE) file was outdated or corrupted, or there is a hardware problem, and you did not wait long enough to get the GPS lock, or you stayed indoors or without the GPS signal.

I recommend going out and trying to get the GPS lock. If you do not get any, then connect the watch over the USB cable to a computer with Garmin Express, delete all files in the folder //GARMIN/RemoteSW/, and then check for updates with GE. When done, disconnect, and do the reset of the watch. Not sure about Venu 2, but if it has the Light button, press and hold it for up to ~30s, till it shuts down, then wait a few secs, and restart). No worry, no data or settings get lost in this way.

If you still do not get any GPS lock even after this operation, then you could do the full master reset to factory defaults through the watch menu, and if still no OK, then contact the Support at https://support.garmin.com  - the watch may need to be replaced.

  • Ok I definitely did wait for the GPS to go ready (got green tick from memory).

Map thing I'm not sure about. Would this be different for a walk? Not sure maybe. I guess the bike mode might expect to senroads /tracks etc.

I'm away from home for next few weeks. But I guess I can start a bike mode activity. And just walk about?

No GPS data is recorded - no map, no trackpoints, no speed, no distance

    It is the same

Yes, you can test it exactly in this way.
