If your watch got a GPS then you don't need your phone. The phone is never needed and the GPS in the phone is never used even if you bring it.
The exception is watches that use connected GPS. Those watches don't have a GPS.
Yes, unless your watch does not have internal GPS and needs to use the "Connected GPS" feature, such as the Lily, vivomove, and vivosmart. Which watch do you have?
