Active calories over double combined activity calories

Hello,

So the calories from my exercises are around 334 but Garmin connect is saying the active calories is over 700. Where is it getting this number? I did a cycling activity for about 20 min in the aerobic zone and a 30 min "tempo" treadmill activity. I searched the forums but people seem to report the opposite as a problem. Just wondering where this calculation is coming from and whether it's correct

If it was evenly spread across the day I'd assume I was just doing more activity but the number of calories spikes right after doing a workout to over double the calories burned during the workout

    Could you post some screenshots of the Calories screens before and after the workout, as well as the detailed stats of the activity, so that we can see whether there is really a problem or not?

  • So it seems to have gone back and forth. I wear the hrm pro plus most of the day and I noticed the calories synced before I was done with my activity to 381 and then they went down to 299. Maybe what was happening was I wasn't letting everything sync so maybe this is a user error. I do have a naturally higher resting heart rate so I wonder if Garmin thinks I'm doing "activity" throughout the day which is making the calorie burn high. Is there a threshold for what it considers as activity?

  • Active Calories are not the Calories you burned during an activity. Active Calories are all Calories that you burn in excess of the Resting Metabolic Rate. In other words, whenever your heart rate is higher than the Resting HR, you burn Active Calories, regardless whether you record an activity or not.
