CPE File

In a future version of GCM I would like to be able to download the CPE file separately and update it.

  • You can force the download already today - delete the CPE file in //GARMIN/RemoteSW/ and then sync. More reliable with Garmin Express, but should work with the GC app too.

  • I know that it works reliably with GE.
But I mainly use a Chromebook at the moment and there's no GE for that.
I canceled the synchronization with GCM this morning after 45 minutes because still no current CPE file was loaded.
Had to use my Win laptop to get a new file with GE.
Better would be my suggestion to be able to load the file separately via GCM (submitted to Garmin as a suggestion).
I will try your tip soon but it is only a workaround.

  • I canceled the synchronization with GCM this morning after 45 minutes because still no current CPE file was loaded.

Did you delete the file first? GCM will not update every time, unless the file is closing the expiry date. Deleting the file and syncing should force the download.

  • No, I did not delete the file beforehand and yes, it had expired.

  • Try deleting it.

If it does not help, you can also use a network monitor and find out the URL where the CPE file is being downloaded from, and then you should be able downloading it in the same way too.

  • ... also when plain syncing with the GC app does not help even when the CPE file was deleted, try starting an outdoor activity. It is typically at this moment that the GC app checks the CPE file, and downloads a new one, when needed.

  • Phew Network Monitor ... I have now installed Wireshark and will have to see if I can work with it.
The rest of your contribution (outdoor activity, at least 15 min contact to the open sky etc.) is known to me, but is my request so unrealizable?
Simply insert a point in GCM and load and synchronize the file quickly and easily.

  • but is my request so unrealizable?

I am afraid the forum is not the best place to ask this question. Nobody here is able to answer it (including the occasional Garmin forum admins), but generally it is always much easier and faster finding a solution yourself, than expecting that a corporation serving tens of millions of users will act on a single user request.
