Cannot enter sleep manually

I track my sleep manually because at night the watch hurts my wrist. A few months ago I started noticing that the app and website sometimes wouldn't let me enter my sleep time.

I've figured out that it's when I'm trying to add times for a previous day. Sometimes I forget or I'm in a place with no Internet connection, so I need to add sleep for previous days. I used to be able to do so.

Around the same time I noticed a new badge for tracking sleep 30 days in a row, so I assume the change is so that people don't "cheat." But that means you've removed functionality for the sake of fun perks, which sucks. I know most people probably track sleep with their watch, not manually, but now I have to figure out how to track my sleep in a different app or on paper if I forget or can't sync, which is ridiculous when it worked fine before.

Please consider giving back the functionality to enter sleep manually regardless of what day it is. Surely "fixing" the possibility that someone will get one extra point every 30 days by cheating isn't worth making the app less functional.

  • You can still edit the sleep times of any day on the Sleep panel of the Dashboard. Navigate to the concerned day, and then click the pencil icon.

  • I'm not trying to edit sleep times, I'm trying to manually add them. The button to do so isn't there on previous days.

  • Should be the same. Try the dashboard panel on Garmin Connect Web. Your screenshot is from Garmin Connect phone app, not GC Web.

However, not sure whether you are aware of it, but adding the sleep manually has no effect on any metrics, so it is not really necessary doing it.

  • I posted this in the Android forum because that's what I use most of the time. But I already checked on the website, and it looks the same as the app to me. Prior days are blank, with no option to add times or edit them:

I use the sleep tracking for my own edification. I know it doesn't tie into any metrics, but having my sleep hours in the same app as all my other data lets me look at long-term trends easily, which is helpful for managing my chronic illnesses. I was using the app this way for 2.5 years, easily adding previous days if I forgot, before the functionality was seemingly taken away.

  • Okay, I made a new Dashboard, since one didn't exist for me on the website with sleep data, and it appears that's the one place that has an option to add it. But at least on my phone, I can't actually edit the times before accepting them, so now it has my default sleep times for that day. If I try to edit on the website on my phone, the edit fields disappear. And when I go back to the app, it isn't possible to edit it.

What an utterly baffling decision to make it only accessible on one part of the website that isn't default.

But thanks for letting me know. Maybe I'll be able to edit it when I have access to a laptop or desktop computer again.
