Garmin not recording intensity minutes for Indoor cycling through Zwift

I have the next Indoor Cycling config

  • Wahoo Kickr Core connected to Zwift
  • Garmin HRM-Dual connected to Zwift and to the Kickr Core
  • Garmin Forerunner 965 are always on my arm, not connected anywhere except of Garmin Connect
  • Zwift sends reports to Strava and Garmin Connect

And I noticed that Garmin connect doesn't count time spent on Indoor cycling as Intensity Minutes

But SOMETIMES I see intensity minutes and that I spent under the exact exercise from Zwift. I'm not sure but maybe on this time I switched on my Garmin Edge but not started ride on it, only discovered meter readings

Could someone point me how to setup my config properly? I'm most worried that not having Intensity Minutes affects other indicators as well

  • You have to use a Garmin device supporting the feature of Intensity Minutes. Manually entered and imported activities, as well as activities from devices or apps not supporting and calculating the IMs, have no impact on the IMs in your Garmin Connect account:

Better told, activities have no direct correlation with IMs. It is the heart rate recorded by your watch that calculates the IMs all day long, regardless whether you do any activities or not.

  • Ok, hi do I see intensity minutes sometimes? I can guess that it's my watches Forerunner 965 which HR monitor isn't accurate last weeks and more lower than real value. So because of it I see intensity minutes correctly

Can I make it to get HR values from my chest sensor always when it is switched on without run biking training on the watches?

First of all, the Intensity Minutes are no important metrics, rather a gadget, for getting a badge, or some points at your insurance. Not at all important for athletes looking for the indicators of their progress.

Then, if you want more accurate results and use a HRM chest strap, the there are several options. If you have a HRM-Pro strap, and it is connected to the GC phone app, the you can remove the watch from your wrist (or disable the OHR sensor), and the HR data (and the Intensity Minutes) will come from the more accurate HRM.

Otherwise, to get the data from the HRM chest strap, instead of the watch, you have to start an activity. When no activity is in progress, the HR data (and the IM) comes from the internal sensor of the watch, which is less accurate, and samples the HR in lower rate (once each 15s).
