After warm up of 10 mins it is written others till lap button press then 8 cycles of run and recover and finally cool down. In step 2 after running I pressed lap button and the activity was saved and 8 cycles and recovery remaining .

Are you sure you pressed the lap button (on many Garmin watches it it is the bottom right button, though it may differ, according to your watch model), and not the stop button (usually the upper right GPS button)?
