Maximal oxygen intake data missing

Hi!

My Garmin connect shows that Maximal oxygen intake data is missing for long periods of time. It was updated few days ago, but before that there's a gap of several weeks. I have been running a 5K training program about two runs a week. I have at least seven recorded runs which I have done in that period that were Maximal oxygen intake is missing. Usually that data is updated all the time. Connect shows all my runs.

What could be the problem here? My first Garmin watch was Vivomove and now I have Venu sq 2. Does this have something to do with me having a new watch? Connect app is the same.

Should oxygen intake data update with training program data too, or is there a bug?

  • With 5K training I mean Connect guided program which is scheduled to my watch. (can't edit my own post., have to add stuff by replying to me...)

Some possibilities are listed in the following article. I'd tell that it is probable that you did not reach 15 continuous minutes with the heart rate above 70% of your Max HR. It might have been easier with Vivomove, since it requires ony 10 minutes, unlike Venu. From the description in the article it is not entirely clear whether the limit for the continuous minutes above 70% of Max HR is 10 or 15 minutes, or just the activity must be longer than 15 minutes, but I suspect it may concern both cases, although not explicitly written.

Possibly also your HR is set too high. If you kept the Max HR auto-detection option, I recommend disabling it, and setting the value manually, after having done a Max HR test. Do not use the standard 220-age calculation, and do not set the highest HR from your stats! Do a proper dedicated test to get the value (find instructions on YouTube or Google)! You must be able to sustain the Max HR for up to 30s. It is very important to set the value correctly.

  • Hi Trux,

Thank you so much for your comments, I really appreciate this.

Some of my previous runs are between 17 and 20 minutes, so if that 15 minute limit exists, I probably should have scored a few data points. Then there are shorter ones, because I just started the program.

The maximum heart rate you mentioned could be the reason for this. I need to look into that with that setting. Thanks for the tip about testing my HR rate.

The question is whether you stayed minimally 10, respectively 15 continuous minutes with your HR above 70% of you Max HR
