Improvements to Garmin Connect App for Strength activities

After using the Garmin Connect app for a bit over a year, here are a number of improvements that I'd love to see added to a future version of the app. This is from someone who uses the 'Free' strength program rather than a built in or user made program as the one or two times I've used a program I've found it not really usable due to getting out of sync (eg accidently starting a new set) and (I'm pretty sure) there being no option to change the number of reps or weight to what you had in the program (ideally it should default to what is in the program but still allow you to edit the reps and weight). 

  • Ability to sync a workout with your phone before you have finished it. This would allow you to make edits while resting between sets
  • Ability to edit multiple sets at once (eg multi-select 3 sets so any changes made apply to all 3)
  • Ability to see the current set number while between sets (right now it is only displayed at the start of a set and there is no option to add it to one of the screens you can cycle through between sets)
  • Ability to have a back button or delete current set (eg if you accidently start the next set)
  • Ability to have the ‘Recent’ list of exercises sorted by either most recently selected exercise or sorted alphabetically (as it is now)
  • Ability to remap detected exercises – for anything detected as ‘exercise a’, record it as ‘exercise b’ (eg for anything detected as a ‘Deadlift’, record it as a ‘Barbell Deadlift’ for anything detected as a ‘Row’, record it as a ‘Seated Cable Row’ etc…)
  • Ability to turn an option on whereby if your watch/the app recognises you are doing supersets (eg Set 1: ‘Exercise a’, Set 2: ‘Exercise b’, Set 3: ‘Exercise a’, Set 4: ‘Exercise b’) the initial weight for the just finished set is the same as the last time that exercise was performed. For example if the weight for ‘Exercise a’ was 50kg and ‘Exercise b’ was 40kg, at the completion of Set 3 it would default to 50kg (last value for Exercise a) instead of 40kg (weight of the most recent set) and at the completion of Set 4 it would be 40kg instead of 50kg.
  • Option to default first and last set to the ‘Warmup’ exercise
  • Option to change method of editing weight (that you could toggle between by a long press of button while on the edit weight screen) with the two different methods being (1) the current method, scrolling between 0 and 9 for the hundreds, tens and one digits and (2) a new method whereby each press of the up or down button changes the weight by a previously user configured value (eg 2.5kg or 5kg)
  • Ability to add a user configured tag to strength training activities and have this displayed in the title (eg Upper Body Push, Upper Body Pull, Lower Body, etc…)

  • Fix: Sometimes when editing a weight in the app it doesn’t save (not sure what the circumstance is that causes this)
  • Fix: Quite frequently certain exercises never make it into the Recent list
