How do I follow a friend's journey if I don't have a Garmin device

My son wants to give me the link to his journey so I downloaded the Garmin connect app. It's not letting me add him as a contact. Because it says I already have too many pending contacts. Which I don't. He is my only contact.

I don't have a Garmin device I only have the Garmin connect app. Please help!

You do not need the Garmin Connect app to follow someone's outdoor activities. It is enough that he sets up Live Track and adds your email address to it. You can then follow the activity live in a browser…

I was able to connect with him, but my app doesn't show the Safety and tracking button like his does
