Why can't I see connections daily step count

That's the thing about weekly, it's not daily.

Exactly. But if you follow it regularly, you can see very well the daily increments anyway.

This is your own step count, I'm talking about connections/friends......

And have to do math based on day of the month instead of looking at data Garmin already has that they could display for you....unhelpful suggestion is unhelpful....

Daily steps and other similarly detailed data are considered private, and not everyone wants to share such info with all their connections. If you want to see the daily steps of some of your connections, you will have to ask them their permission, and have them adding you as an "Authorized Viewer" on their Connections screen of the Garmin Connect app.
