Where are the segment times in the app?

How do I see the segment times for a specific ride in Garmin Connect App?

When I open my most recent ride (or any other ride) in the app, the ride info screen has a "View Segments" link. When I click "View Segments" it gives me a list of segments I rode through (no times). And when I click on a specific segment, it displays general segment information, which includes my best time for that segment.

I'm not interested in my best time. I want to see the segment time for this specific ride. Where is this information in the app? Where should I click to see it?

  • I've never found this info either, It could almost completely replace strava for me if the current ride segment times were listed so I could at least see if I'm getting slower or staying consistent compared to my fastest.

  • It is easier in Garmin Connect Web, where you can see the current segment time directly on the Segments tab. If you insist on using the app only, you have to open the segment leaderboard (tap View Full Leaderboard) and then enable the filter (see the blue button top right), choose the option Only Me and then tap Save. To see the dates (in order to find the concerned activity), you have to turn the phone to the landscape position, and scroll to the far right.

  • Yes, that indeed works. Thank you. (What a bizarre implementation!)

However, firstly, the data in that table is apparently sorted by segment time. And there seems to be no way to choose a different sorting mode. So, in order to find a specific ride (e.g. this morning's) one has to scroll through the whole list, looking for a specific date.

And secondly (and more importantly), the segment times I see there show very little correlation with the times reported by the device itself (Edge 830 in my case). For example, my time on one specific segment this morning was 0:52. And my Edge 830 in its "History" still reports this segment as 0:52. But when I find this segment in the Garmin App (using the above method), it reports 1:13. Such a massive difference cannot be explained by a calculation method, rounding errors or anything else.

The same problem exists in Garmin Web: 1:13 for this segment.

What is going on here? Why such a massive inconsistency between the stats in the device and the uploaded stats?

That's why I suggested using the web interface - it is way much more easier with it, since the current segment time is directly on the main screen, on the Segment tab, without having to scroll through all your results.

Which recording mode do you use? The default "Smart Recording" or the optional "Every Second Recording"? If it is the default mode, it could explain it, because the recorded points the closest to the starting and/or the ending segment points, may be quite a bit aside from them, and Garmin Connect, unlike the device in the real-time, will only use the recorded points to show the segment times. Switching to the "Every Second Recording mode", should offer finer resolution, and more accurate results.
