Frustrations with Garmin Coach

I recently ended a coaching program early as I wasn't finding it challenging enough and wanted to move from a 10k program to a half marathon one.

I don't understand why these programs aren't a bit smarter at understanding your current activity. I mean it asks me when I'm setting it up how many kms I normally run in a week, for which I selected 40, but now it wants me to do only 12km of easy runs a week to start with!? How is that useful?

Also, in 8 weeks of a 10k program I never actually did a 10k. It would be nice to have the occasional one in there, maybe every couple of weeks. I understand the need to work up to longer distances, but it's not like I wasn't already running those distances so why limit me so much. I had it set to improve my time, not my distance.

I actually really appreciate the structure of these programs, and materials provided, but like I said, I feel like they need to be more adaptive to the user.

The reality is that if this current plan wants to keep me doing short distance runs, mostly at an easy pace, for weeks on end (as it did with the 10k one) I'll probably just cancel it and do my own thing. Unfortunately that means missing out on the often valuable advice in the training programs.
