Garmin calories when using two devices is garbage, has been for years.

Example broken use case:

1) use an epix watch for daily tracking, weight lifting and occasional running.

2) use an edge 1040 for cycling workouts 6 days a week.

3) use their HRMPro during workouts

4) does not matter which device is set to be the priority device, but currently I have the edge as priority as I was hoping then it’s harsh workouts would take precedence over the watch.

5) here is a set of screen grabs showing the problem (don’t get me started on how bad it is when my workouts run past midnight, which is most nights).

clearly I burnt 1897 active calories on this ride

clearly Garmin did not record this correctly.

Example 2:

Clearly I burnt 2002 calories

clearly Garmin did not record these into the total (there were already active calories there before the workout)

Summary:

when you are either integrating into a food / calorie tracking app to loose weight or to ensure you are correctly fueling to maintain fitness and weight this stuff is super important and the reason people like myself justify spending the extra $ on Garmin devices. When their devices are worse than less expensive competitors at something so expected and established as calorie tracking there should be absolutely no slack cut for this HUGE mess they have made of it.

Since you have asked others in past forum posts (months and years ago)…

Yes, I am available to troubleshoot.

And, yes you have my permission to look into my account.

please fix!

  • I appear to have this same issue. I have a Fenix 7 pro SS, and an edge 1040. Calories don’t sync from the edge. Endurance score doesn’t update after ANY of my rides. Only when I use my Fenix for activity.

I use myfitnesspal to track calories, and I allow Garmin auto adjustment. This is problematic for my usage as well for same reason as Scott.

you also have my permission to look into my account and reach out to troubleshoot.
