App causes wifi to disconnect when unlocking

Hello,

since I migrated to a new phone (Motorola Moto G42) I had the problem that I would lose an active wifi connection and it would need ot reconnect after unlocking my phone. Researching I found out, that other users (in diffrent forum) had the same problem and it was caused by the Garmin Connect App. As it turned out, this was also the problem in my case. I did 4 test , each with and without the app installed, and the problem consistenly disappears when the app is not installed.

Is there a fix for that issus?

Thanks!

  • That seems weird.

What I would do if I had this problem is start by deleting the cache for the Connect app in Android settings. If that doesn't work, I'd delete the data, uninstall the app, and then reinstall.

If that still doesn't work, I'd clear the system cache usually by rebooting while pressing the Volume Down key.

If the problem persists after all that, I'd call Garmin support. They've been great whenever I've needed them.

  • Thank you for the answer.

Uninstalling/Reinstlaling and chache wiping did sadly not help. Problem is still there and every single time kill the wifi connection on relog.

Will try the support I think.

  • I would recommend contacting the support of Motorola too, since it seems to be something specific to their phones. In the years I watch the forum here, I never heard about this issue before, and never had similar problems myself either, although I already changed many phone models (no Moto though).

You can also try re-verifying the permissions of the Garmin Connect app, and make sure no battery optimizing is enabled for it, and that it has the full permissions even when run in the background. Check the lock-screen options too.

A quick googling shows that Moto can indeed have some problems with apps using web-assisted positioning services, and it can lead to the described effect. I do not know who is to be blamed here, but seeing that it works fine with other brands, I think Motorola could be able to help you out with some advice other than just removing the concerned app.

  • Same situation with my Moto G42 and Garmin Connect APP. after reinstalling, I was able to pair the phone with the watch and not disconnect from the wifi, but each subsequent garmin update restored the problem. so after reinstalling and pairing the watch, I decided to turn off updates in the garmin application and wait for android 13 on motorola hoping that it will solve the problem. In addition, I discovered that in my case it was not the garmin application itself that caused the problem, but the simultaneous use of bluetooth and wifi with the active garmin application. What's more, the wifi only broke when it was on 5ghz and on 2.4ghz it worked stably.
