samsung smartthings setup final steps fails

hello,

the samsung smartthings app (from the connect iq store) fails to finish the setup.

i installed the app from the iq store then it appeared in the widgets on the watch. when i enter the widget, the "to complete the pairing, open the Garmin Connect Mobile App" message appears on the watch. This action will open the garmin connect app on the phone and a white screen appears with a loading circle in the middle, probably the samsung account login prompt, which is not doing anything but loading until i close it or exit the app so the setup pretty much stops at that point. (see attached pic)

devices:

garmin fenix 6x pro (26.00)

google pixel 6a (android 14) with latest garmin connect (4.68)

samsung smartthing is set up correctly because i use it on other devices.

  • I would guess the issue relates to 2FA. Not sure the IQ app handles it properly.

After Samsung implemented changes to their security system, I found that I was always being prompted to log in. Ultimately, I decided it was too much of a hassle and uninstalled it.

  • I have exactly the same problem. Tried turning off 2FA in my Samsung account but it didn't help. Also tried using Grtamin Express, hoping I could do the logon on my PC, but no luck there either.

My phone is a Pixel 7 pro, running Android 13 and latest version of Garmin Connect. Watch is a Vivoactive 4.

  • thanks for the input guys, looks like not another broken (and probably abandoned) garmin feature.
