Km Split times do not match record time

Hello, I ran a trail race today and used the “run” activity tracker. My lap splits are per 1 km and my times per each lap were in the range of 6:15 to 7min per km. However my watch also captured a “record” for 1km as 5:30min. Where did that come from?

  • Where did that come from?

1km record does not care about the laps, so it was apparently overlapping parts of two of them. It is the fastest 1 km section within your run, not the fastest 1km lap. Check out the activity map - the fastest section will be the most red one.

  • Hm, the whole map looks the same amount of red to me. But also just seems a bit unrealistic that there would have been a 1km stretch that was much faster than the average time for each lap based on those times..?

Why? Are you telling it is impossible to have a slow start of one lap, and a slow end of the next lap? Personally, my records never match with the laps. I rarely (or rather never) start to run faster exactly at the beep of a new lap. And even if I do, it takes a moment before I reach the max pace. The averages of both laps will be of course lower than the max of their faster parts.

  • ... however, if you suspect an error in the PR detection, post a link to the activity, and we can have a look at it. It is not that difficult to analyze the data and see where the fastest section was, and what the pace was. Even better for the analysis would be if you export the activity as "Original" in Garmin Connect Web, and insert the zipped activity here into your post - the analysis of the file is easier than checking the online data.
