Connect course planner doesn't follow optimal route between waypoints and sends me down private driveways.

I'm trying to plot a course for a commute and unless I place waypoints every 500 feet or so the route planner routes down every little loop it can find to send me out of my way. For example if I place two waypoints, one at each end of a road that happens to have a few looped driveways on it, the route planner will route me down every single one of those driveways. Is there a setting I can change to force it to follow optimal paths between points so that this isn't an issue?
