Android app that can record Garmin Connect compatible tracklogs

I'm looking for an Android app that can record Garmin Connect compatible tracklogs for manually uploading or for automatic syncing to Garmin Connect.

I'm about to send my watch away for a return so I was wondering on what would be the best app to use on my phone to get stuff into Garmin Connect.

Something that is not Strava.

I don't want to use Strava becasue my sync is set up from Garmin Connect to Strava and ideally I would just let it be as it is. Also, I would use this as a substitute for times when my watch battery has died or I have forgotten the watch etc. So I wouldn't want to re-do my sync setup every time for one-off things like that.

I have tried a couple of track logging apps on android but when I try to put it into Garmin Connect I get an error, hence I"m asking if anyone know of a working solution.

  • You will not get much data from a 3rd party app, besides importing the activities. Data like steps, Calories, all-day HR, resting HR, Body Battery, sleep, stress, training load, VO₂max etc. won't be updated with imported activities. Imported activities also do not count towards challenges and badges.

A much better solution for your situation is buying a second-hand cheap device that you can use in such cases. In some countries, Garmin is also willing to send you a replacement device before you send yours in (towards a deposit), so you do not miss any data.

  • Yes, I do realize, all the other data would not be there, but I don 't want to buy another watch just for backup. Besides, the return thing aside, I"m not going to carry a spare watch around with me all the time, for those cases when I forget to charge mine, or just forget to wear it. That's why I'm just looking for a phone app that can do compatible tracklogs, just for the distance and track logging purposes

  • Since you are already using Strava, and do not mind the limitations I listed, then the simplest solution is recording the activity with Strava and then importing it to Garmin Connect. Imported activities are not being sent to Strava, so it will not result in any duplicates.
