Garmin Connect - no audio prompts/instructions/directions with a Samsung phone

At the moment audio promps/instructions don't working in conbination with my phone.

tbh I find the audio directions realy usefull and it requires to focus less on the navigations screen and look more ahead to where I should go.

When I go into the settings of the connect APP.

and go to 'Activity options' and then go to 'audio notifications'  (I hope the translations for this a correct since the app uses my defauly system language)

The audio noficiations are enabled, and when I press the 'warning volume'  where the sound speaker icon is there is never ending looping circle.

And when I press the volume buttons on my phone nothing happens, the circle just keeps spinning indefinatly.

Some of the things I have tried

  • Restting the APP
  • removing my bike computer from the APP and recouple it
  • giving the connect APP more rights
  • rebooting the phone and or bike computer
  • also restting the the bike computer
    • A combination of the above mentioned all yielded the same results, no sound

The one thing that did work is coupling the the bike computer to on a old phone did work.

It worked directly and I ran into no problems, but it is not ideal since I would have to carry two phones.

Some Aditional information

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G

Bike computer: Garmin Edge 830

Garmin connect: Latest version

Other phone is a moterola

  • Try adjusting the volume. You have to adjust it exactly in the moment the audio prompts are active, because otherwise you'll just adjust the global audio volume. Easiest done by tapping the Volume option at the bottom of the Audio Prompts screen of the Connect app, and instantly after pushing the button Volume Up of your phone.

  • Now that is the whole problem, that works on my old phone, but it is instantly stuck on my current Samsung phone and there I have no sound.

    this used to work a couple of months ago, but not anymore

  • That is a pretty neat tool/feature.

    Adding 'Connect' and setting it to 100% doesn’t work, I still get no sound when I press the volume settings button in the connect APP

    It still keeps rotating and nothing else happens, tbh it feels like it is trying to execute a command but it is getting no response. at least that is the way how it feels/looks. If you go back a screen and open the volume settings screen again is the only way to stop loading/circle

    I also tried it for another APP there it does work, and it also shows that one expanded volume screen after enabling that option.

    with the other phone when I press the volume changing button I do hear sound straight away sort of sound instantly and the using the volume buttons up and down changes the volume. Also there is no loading / circle the sound is instant.

  • It looks like Samsung has a lot of non standard extra settings, otherwise not available on vanilla Android. There are, for example, also audio per app permissions, so you may want to check them out:

    How to manage mobile app permissions and notifications | Samsung SG

    And voice permissions would be another possible culprit: Solved: Re: How do you grant permissions to use voice text... - Page 2 - Samsung Community - 306656

    If none of it helps, try Googling Samsung-related voice and audio topics, or search Samsung forums, or contact Samsung's support.

  • Those permission are sadly already correct.

    Also tried the dolby atmos slider fix from the samsung forums, it all yields the same results it must be something Sasmung has screwed up from their end.

    tried another old phone this morning and it worked like a charm, why does this have to be so hard on a sasumg phone it is not like they don't sell enough.

    One thing worked for some others on the samsung forums was doing a soft reset of their phone, I might try that when I have some more time. Since recovery for some apps might take some more time.

  • Same problem, my old nokia 8 works fine. My new samsung A54 doesn't. I do notice a drop in music volume but I do not hear the audio message. So maybe it is an android 13 thing.

  • Well it is at least good to know that I am not the only having this problem.

    Recent Phone updates and updates to the Connect APP haven't solved my issue. For the time being itt is still not working.

  • I found a solution, the English menu items are a bit of a guess but you should be able to work it out

    Instellingen || Settings

    > Toegankelijkheid ||  Accessibility

    >> Geïnstalleerde apps || Installed Apps

    >>>Geluidsmeldingen || Sound notifications

    >>>>Geluidsmeldingen sneltoets || Sound notifications hotkey

    After that it's somewhat vague. I turned the the option ("Tikken op knop toegankelijkheid" || "Tap accessibility button" ) on and it started working.

    My phone is a Samsung A54 and my watch a Fenix 5X

  • Thanks for the update, that solution/workaround seems to work.

    It only sounds a bit weird the Dutch and English combination, I will see how it goes on a ride.

    At least the sound is working now.
