I seem to loose my segments after hitting the pause button, the time was running, but distance and other data kept were just from the last segment. Is there a way to retain the "lost" data or is this a thing?

  • When you pause an activity, the recording is paused, hence not logged, and you cannot recover the data. May I ask why do you pause the activity if you want that it continues logging it?

  • I feel a bit silly, because Im all new to this Garmin and recording rides and stuff. I stopped for bit for refreshment so I paused it not to have a longer "idle/flat" segment on my ride, thought it can even lower my average speed, so wanted to try what will happen, never occured to me, that it wouldnt save the route data

    • And on the device theres explicitly written "to resume ride press play" in the manual there is written that to pause timer press "play", the "lap button" is mentioned at the beginning,  but from what I understand I'll be using that more often :)
  • Yes, pausing when you really want to pause is all right, but of course, no data will be recorded during the pause. Data before and after the pause are logged. As for the time, there are three different ones. The Elapsed Time - the time since the beginning to the end, including pauses; then the activity Time - excluding the stopped pauses; and the Moving Time - in plus of excluding the pauses, it excludes also periods when no movement is detected (regardless whether you paused or not).

If you lost some data from the time before pausing the Activity, then either you did something wrong, or the device malfunctioned, or the paused activity timed out and saved automatically. Check out you activities in Garmin Connect, the first part may be there saved independently from the second one.

When pausing for more than a minute or two, I recommend using the function "Resume Later". Look it up the the user manual for your watch model. That function returns to the default watchface while paused, while the simple pause stays on the Pause screen, it may expire, and you can then inadvertently discard the activity. Or check the following article to see whether your watch model has the function:
