Garmin Connect app design refresh?

I have had a pretty enjoyable time with Garmin Connect Mobile app for the last six years. However, from the very first days I couldn´t help but notice the app design was similar of those from 2010.

1. The Training Effect in the app is visually hard to look at. Orange bars for both anaerobic and aerobic training effects. The watch portrays them as grey, blue, green, orange or red, so why wouldn´t the app do the same?

2. In the watch when you view an activity, the heart rate chart is shown with colors corresponding to the heart rate zones (again: grey, blue, green, orange, red). Why does the heart rate chart in the mobile app show it all as red? Same goes for the running power.

3. You should be able to see a chart for strength training volume and reps for different exercises like you do in the web version.

4. In strength training activities the muscle map that shows where certain movements focus (e.g. back squat on quads) should be used in its own page (maybe called "muscle strain") to see how much a respective muscle has been strained recently. Just an idea!

Hope to see a change in the future. Look at a company like Kia. Previously they were seen as reliable, but pretty boring. Since the logo refresh the cars have also got an uplift and lo - now they feel like one of the most modern and exciting car companies out there. Wishing that Garmin could do the same with a UI update for the Connect Mobile app.

  • And get rid of the forced activity types in the list, should all by customizable. No reason to pin activity types the user is not doing. And it needs the search and filter options the web interface provides.

    3. The volume and reps view in web is totally useless because it resets the selected exercises when you scroll through the timeline and it adds up multiple session into one data point if you increase the time scale. Also volume means nothing I can do 10 x 10kg bench-presses or 1x 100kg, huge difference strength-wise.

    4. tapping an exercise in strength should highlight the timeframe on the heartrate graph.
