BugReport: no confirmation for firmware-update

Garmin Connect pushes an firmware-update to a connected device without any user-interaction.

This is categorized as BugReport, because Garmin Connect MUST ask the user for permission when/if to perform a critical firmware-update.

There is a risk of bricking the device, it destroys the current running activity, and there is risk of losing money (when the update starts inmid of an Garmin Pay transaction, what happend to me today)

Check the option "Auto Update" in the menu of your watch (System » Software Update), and set it to Off, if you do not wish any automatic updates.

    This is categorized as BugReport

If turning the auto-updates off does not help, please report the bug to the Support, or in the Bug Reports section of the subforum dedicated to your watch model in the Beta Program section. Reporting it here on the user forum won't have any impact, and it is unlikely to be seen by the developers.

  • the Auto-Update option only affects installed app, not the firmware

  • the Auto-Update option only affects installed app, not the firmware

I do not see it stated in this way in the manual of my watch, but if it really does not work for stopping the updates, please report it to the Support.

  • I have disabled Auto-Update but the firmware is still pushed to the watch.

And Garmin stated a while ago, this forum is the preferred way to report a bug, so here we go...

But indeed I will open a support ticket to make them aware of this thread

  • It shouldn't update if auto update is disabled, but the software will likely still be pushed to the watch so it can be installed when you decide to. A question should popup asking you if you like to update when it is fully downloaded to the watch.

  • And Garmin stated a while ago, this forum is the preferred way to report a bug, so here we go...

Oppositely, AFAIK, they always stated that people should report bugs either directly to the Support, or (in case of beta versions) either in the Bug Reports section of the respective Beta Program subforum for your watch, or by emailing directly to the developers (in the past, at models not being in the Beta Program). And there are also instructions describing what the bug report on the Beta Program forum should contain: What information is needed to report a bug? - Beta Wiki - Beta Program - Garmin Forums
