I have a Vivoactive 4. When walking, the activity function on my Garmin shows the milage walked. However I also use the Ordnance Survey app to map my routes. Why is there a discrepancy between both devices on the milage covered. Depending on the distance covered, the discrepancy increases between the two devices.

Is this because the vivoactive measures the distance depending on the steps I take and my leg stride?

I have to think the OS map app is more accurate. Am I right.

Cheers

  • How are you logging your walks on the Vivoactive 4? Are you starting a walk activity so that the GPS is used? Make sure you got auto pause disabled since that can affect the logged distance.

  • Hi E7andy. Yes my GPS is on and I start off  recording my walking activity manually on my Garmin and on my OS map app via my phone.

The map route recorded on my Connect app is the same as that on my OS map app.

I'm just wondering if the milage covered on the Garmin is based on your stride length as opposed to the GPS position of the watch.

  • If you log an activity with the GPS the GPS is used for calculating the distance.

Make sure you got a good GPS position before you press start. Don't use auto start activity (always start manually) and disable auto pause. Those actions should make the distance more accurate.

  • Hi again. I've swapped my GPS from GPS Gallilio to GPS. Auto pause was already disabled.

I'll see how that goes. Cheers
