heart rate bike display

hi all,

I have a Venu 2 Sq. My eye sight is not very good so when i ride my bike i am not able to read the heart rate on my watch. I need a bigger screen while I ride around.

Is there a device I can connect to my watch that can fit on the handle bars of my bike so i can see my heart rate while I ride?

thank you!

Yes, you can either use your phone (Garmin Connect shows the HR in real-time), or you can use and Edge bike computer, broadcasting the HR to it from your watch (unless you use a HRM chest belt, in which case you'd just pair it with the Edge computer).

  • Thank you for the suggestion. The Edge seems to be what i want.Though I am not thrilled the cheapest model is 200 dollars.

One thing about the phone method I did not like is that you do not get your zone info and as far as i can tell you cannot initiate a ride or walk on the phone etc. the phone gets the health metrics after the fact.

kind of a shame, it would be nice to initiate a ride or walk from the phone and see the activity info in real time on the phone as well. not sure why it has to be only from the watch or ride computer etc.

perhaps i have not dug deep enough into the garmin connect platform.

I do not quite get why, and never had the need. Isn't the watch practically always closer than the phone? Starting an activity is done with two button presses. Doing  it on the phone could not be any simpler or quicker.

As for the HR and some other metrics, I recommend looking at the feature Audio Prompts - you can get the HR, pace, distance, and some other info announced every x seconds, so it may help, if you have problems seeing it on the screen. Another option, that I use too, is customizing the activity profile, adding new Data Screens with a single field and using the biggest font for displaying the info you want to monitor.

  • so essentially i cannot read the screen of the watch without reading glasses. with accessibility turned on the phone the app on the phone is much easier for me to use without having to use my reading glasses.

  • It would be convenient to start a bike or a stroll from the phone and see the activity information in real time. I don't get why it must just come from the watch or ride computer. capybara clicker

  • You can suggest it to Garmin: Share Ideas | Garmin
