Request cycle tracking like steps

I see previous similar requests.

Basically cycling activity should tracked towards total activity. I cycle around more than I walk but it is not counted towards daily activity.

Don't care if separate or lumped in with steps under calories. Just want it tracked without becoming a distinct activity.

I realise it might be harder to measure cycling without GPS, esp height gained but surely something can be done?

  • Why not simply recording your cycling as activities? Most people (including myself) do it in this way. If you are afraid it would consume too much battery, buy a speed sensor, connect i to the watch, and turn off the GPS in the activity settings.

  • Not Aware of speed sensors. Will investigate. Thanks.

Activities involve faffing about with buttons, waiting for GPS sync and taking glove off to activate touch screen. Plus don't want every short stint on cycle tracked in Strava, just actual activities.

Steps just get tracked with no interaction needed.

You can disable GPS, if you have a sensor measuring the distance.

Yes, but what do you want to track on a bike if GPS is off, and no activity using an external sensor is in use? You could attach the watch to your ankle, and have the pedaling counted as steps, but that would skew your steps stats.

    For example this one: www.garmin.com/.../641230

However, you'll need to start an activity anyway in order to have the watch reading the data from the speed sensor.

You could also use a bike computer. You can configure some of them so that they count the distance without the necessity to start. I use a simple counter for 9€ on my old indoor bike in this way for that purpose, though that one does connect to my watch, so I have to enter the distance manually.

Unless GPS is used to guesstimate altitude. I dunno if the vivoactive has a real barometer or equivalent.

Maybe cadence and speed are needed for good tlresults?

Why not checking the specs if it is your own watch? You do not even want to know what your watch is capable of?

Speed and distance can be measured by the speed sensor I already mentioned. If you need to have the cadence data, for some reason, then you can buy a cadence sensor too. Otherwise it is not needed. You can find the bundle from Garmin here:
