Kilimanjaro hike

Hi, I've just climbed the Kilimanjaro and it is not showing me the correct altitude. Instead of 5965m it is showing me 5700. Someonenelse from the group has a different Garmin watch and it shows 5905m. I have Forerunner 255s. Can you fix it, please?

  • You should calibrate the altitude several times during a hike/climb at known altitudes to get the correct altitude since the barometric pressure very likely will change during the hike/climb. For very short activities you usually only need to calibrate at the start, but if you are out several hours and need correct altitude you should calibrate more often.

You can try the elevation correction function and see if that gives you the data you want.

  • If I didn't know that earlier, how can I update the elevation in the recorded and saved activity? Thank you for the answer.

  • Elevation correction is one method which is availble from Garmin Connect. It will then use topographic data instead of the barometric data.

You find it in Garmin Connect Web. If you view the activity you see it right under the watch.

The other method is more advanced an requires that you download the FIT file, edit the elevation data and then upload it again.
