Garmin showing steps instead of elevation gain on strava

My Garmin on strava is now showing steps instead of elevation gain. This is the same with a friend's. If I record on strava it's fine. So guessing it's garmin. Any ideas?

    Are you getting a different label instead of "Elevation Gain", or are you just guessing the number shows the steps, because of its high value?

    Did you check the Elevation Gain in Garmin Connect? If it is all right in Garmin Connect, and wrong in Strava, then it is not Garmin, it then looks rather like a glitch in Strava's import. In such case, I recommend reporting it to the support at Strava and have them look at it. However, I just checked my activities from the past days in Strava, and they all show the right Elevation Gain, so it does not really look like something has changed.

    Another possibility, though rather highly unlikely, is that you installed a Connect IQ app for counting the steps during an activity, and it adds it to a field with a name reserved for the elevation.
