Garmin Venu watch keeps disconnecting from mobile but resolves when reopen app

Garmin Venu watch keeps disconnecting from my android phone. This resolves when I reopen the connect app. I have tried pairing/impairing, resetting the app, resetting the watch and adjusting my Bluetooth settings. Please help
