I have changed an activity type in my watch settings via the app many times. Yet when i choose that activity type, all records revert back to what it was originally called.
I have followed all Insx. This appears to be a big. I have all screenshots to show. How do i share them?

Garmin default is "Elliptical". I changed it to "Assault Bike" in the device settings as instructed. It seemed to work

then in connect it is always elliptical., I can change the name manually but cant alter the type.. that remains elliptical

The activity Assault Bike does not exist in the list of activities of Garmin's SDK, so I assume the name shown in your GC app comes from a 3rd party CIQ app. You can only use supported sport types - so either Elliptical, Indoor Bike, Cardio, Other, or something other of your choice, for the activity type.
As for the activity name, you can change the naming pattern in GC Web settings at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/settings to Location & Device Activity Name, and the name "Assault Bike" will be preserved in the title of the activity.
