Why is energy usage in calories and not kJ?

Units of measure inconsistencies

  • My guess is that it is because energy in food is measured primarily in calories in United States. From what I can see on the labels I found with Google images joules are not printed.

I checked a number of labels on food in my home (located in Sweden, Europe) and both joules and calories are printed on the nutrition facts label. In Sweden my feeling is that almost no one is using joules to measure energy in food or work for exercise.
