Why doesn't Garmin not credit intensity minutes for swimming?

Why does Garmin not credit intensity minutes for swimming?

I'm really confused about this. I understand they don't capture heart rate consistently during swimming. But somehow my watch figures I burn 500 calories doing my 40- minute, 2,000-yard workout in the pool but... No intensity minutes? And then my flat 2-mile bike ride home warrants a few minutes. How can they not fix this?

  • I have same issue. I record swimming with HRM and average HR is 154 . Still with 40 minutes it gives me 10 to 12 minutes of intencity minutes. I will go to walk and with HR 110 average every minute counts.

  • You either have to record the HR with the watch, or use a chest belt supporting the feature of Intensity Minutes, and have it linked with Garmin Connect, in order to get the IM credit while swimming.

  • I have used HRM Tri and HRM Swim are they not supported? Tri is working fine with MTB activity.

  • IMs are processed ony in real-time, so it must be either your watch monitoring the HR, or a strap supporting the feature. The Store & Forward feature of straps like the HRM₋Tri or HRM-Swim alone is not sufficient to get any IMs from the strap. As far as I know only HRM-Pro supports the feature of Intensity Minutes.
