Unable to Add Device because of incorrect pin

Hello,

Today I noticed that the time was off by two minutes on my Solar Instinct. I thought that was strange since I have it set to sync with my phone. I tried to sync it but the device wasn't found and it wouldn't reconnect via the bluetooth screen on my Pixel 3a.

So I did what I normally do with these types of issues and removed the device in bluetooth and in the connect app and then tried to re-add. It would fail every time. I noticed that if I tried to add it in the bluetooth screen directly it would sometimes pop the "add code from device" dialog and the watch would show the code, but it would close the dialog and say "unable to add device due to incorrect pin entered". I can't type the pin, check allow, and click ok fast enough and not sure if it would work anyways.

I have tried rebooting the phone and watch multiple times.

I tried uninstalling Garmin Connection and then adding the watch. If I go this route it allows me to add it and I can enter the pin, but then the watch tells me the pairing failed since Garmin Connect isn't installed. Installing Garmin Connect at this point finds the watch but still fails to connect.

Not sure what else to do or what the issue actually is. My watch? My phone? The connect software? I've gone through the troubleshooting guide here but nothing solved my issue.

Thanks!

  • Also just did a hard reset on my watch to see if that was an issue, still unable to add it. Seems like an issue with the Garmin Connect app since it only happens when that is installed.

  • Did you find a solution to this issue?
I'm now having the exact same issue you have described, the difference being that I have been having Bluetooth issues since the last update(26.00) so I also uninstalled Connect and removed the watch(Fenix 6 pro) from Bluetooth... now I can't pair because the dialog to enter the code is too fast, and even when I manage to enter the passcode it tells me that the pin is incorrect!

  • I still had the issue after a hard reset. Ended up working with Garmin support and then sent me a replacement watch because it was just broken.

  • Thanks for the reply, didn't really expect one!
I hope it doesn't come to that... I've tried everything, five times, so far (multiple restarts of all devices, deleting the device from all the accounts, etc.) except a hard reset which I'll try tomorrow end of the day.
I hope it works coz I don't know whether they'd be willing to replace a 3-year-old watch.

  • My instinct started doing this exact same thing a few months ago and no matter what I do I cannot get it to pair back to my phone. Any other device I try to add it to.
