10k training plan differ from my boyfriends.

Why does my 10k training plan differ from my boyfriends. We have entered exact same info, run times, goal, long run day, days we can train etc. I have deleted and redone the training plan 5 times and done 5 benchmark runs (with my partner) but it still gives me a different training plan.

Example, Day 4 for me is Strides and day 5, (Monday, longrun is 70 min, 5, walk 2 x 30 run, 5 walk).  Whereas my boyfriends day 4 is 30min (5 walk, 2 x 10 run, 5 walk) and day 5, (Monday, longrun is 40 min, 5 walk, 20 run, 10 run, 5 walk).

  • Probably due to different body parameters, different training history, different metrics, and different performances - the Coach plans are adaptive, so they take plenty of parameters into the account.

If you want to do identical exercises, simply quit your training plan, and use the workouts of your BF. Just be aware that you can harm yourself, since the workouts may not be well suited for you.

You can copy them from his watch and place them on yours. You can find them in the folder //GARMIN/Workouts. You may also need to copy the schedules (in //GARMIN/Schedule), but you can also start the workouts manually from the Run activity menu » Training » Workouts.

Or you can both start the same Self-Guided Plan (further down on the Training Plans page) instead of the Garmin Coach plan. Those are not adaptive and should give you both the same workouts, I believe (not tested, though).

  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

How exactly do I get it off my partners watch onto mine please. He has a different model Garmin to mine.  Not sure what you mean //GARMIN/Workouts etc.

    Thanks

  • He has a different model Garmin to mine.

Never mind, the structure is identical on practically all Garmin models

Not sure what you mean //GARMIN/Workouts etc.

Connect the watch with the USB cable to a computer, open the drive of the watch in a file manager (Explorer in Windows or  Finder on a Mac), open the folder GARMIN, then open the folder Workouts

If it does not work for some reason, use the self-guided training plan instead of the Garmin Coach plan

  • Great thanks, I'll give that a go.

Will it then put his training plan into my Garmin watch and if i synch to my Garmin app, it should then show as a training plan and show on the calendar. So if need to i can reschedule a run?

    thanks for your help :)

  • if i synch to my Garmin app, it should then show as a training plan and show on the calendar.

No, it will not sync back to the Garmin Connect account. It will only be available on the watch. You do not need to reschedule, you can start any workout existing on the watch manually. If you train together with your BF, there is no need for the schedule - he'll tell you when the time comes. Just open the Run activity, long-press the Menu button, select Training » Workouts » chose the same workout as your BF » start & enjoy the run with your BF Slight smile

  • Awww shame it doesn't synch back to Garmin Connect Disappointed

Thank you for all your help :)
