Advanced sleep data not syncing to Connect

My sleep stages show no REM on Connect, but it's there on the watch. Connect says there is only basic data. All the troubleshooting refers to it being a problem with the watch, but the watch is fine. It's Connect not showing the full data, either on the app or the web. I have tried syncing via mobile app and Garmin Express with the same result. Any solution? It worked for the first week, but not for the last couple of days.

  • First of all, I'd try restarting or soft-resetting the watch. If it does  not help, you could try the following steps:

    1. Remove the watch from the Garmin Connect Mobile app
    2. Sign out of the GCM app!
    3. Remove the watch from the Garmin Express on the computer
    4. Sign out of GE!
    5. Remove the watch from the Garmin Connect Web
    6. Sign out of the web account!
    7. Sign in back to your original Garmin Connect account on the app, and add the watch again. Repeat with Garmin Express.
  • I already tried all of the above. There is something happening between the watch and Connect that eats the REM data. Oddly, when I woke early this morning (I don't sleep well), the REM data was on Connect. I managed to go back to sleep for an hour, after which REM was gone again.

  • Can you post a photo of the Sleep graph on your watch, and a screenshot of the diagram of the same night as shown in Garmin Connect?

  • In order: watch, Garmin Connect android, Garmin connect web.

  • Yes, indeed, you are right. It looks like some post-processing on the server was done on the data. This was the standard behavior with older Garmin models. The sleep data was being analyzed on the server (several times during the day), not on the watch. With the new on-device analysis. the post processing was abandoned, or at least I though so. And in my case the data on the watch is indeed identical to the graphs in GC. In your place, I'd contact the Support and report it to them. It may be a bug, applying the postprocessing even at (some) models having the on-device sleep analysis. Though, it may be also a deliberate decision to keep the on-server post-processing anyway. See what the FAQ tells about the changes (although it speaks only about the sleep window, in fact the entire diagram structure used to change at the old models, and in your case still does):

Why Did My Sleep Data Change?
Sleep windows may recalculate throughout the day to verify and distinguish between waking up early and going back to sleep vs being up for the entire day. You may notice slight variances in your complete sleep window as these calculations update. Even with these recalculations, sleep monitoring can still stop if the device detects movement that indicates you've entered an "awake" state for an extended period of time during the night.

  • I think it is a connect app problem, mine did the exact same thing today after the app updated last night. I followed all the above step and still the watch shows the advanced sleep information but the app doesnt.

  • Mine has done the exact same thing. The last two days, when I checked the sleep data shortly after waking up, the sleep data was correctly displayed on both the device and the Connect app . On both days, at some later point in the day, the connect app changed my sleep cycles and removed the previously recorded sleep score. Both the data and score were still correctly displayed on the device. I Have a Forerunner 945 and an iPhone 13.

  • I can confirm. There seems to be an issue (with Garmin Connect). Sleep True Up has stopped working as well.

  • I have the exact same problem - on the watch I have sleep score and all three sleeping stages, but in app and web for today and yesterday this information is missing.

  • I reported it to Garmin support yesterday, and today my sleep has synced properly, so hopefully it's sorted.
