Activities deleted on device still appear in Garmin Connect

I have Venu 2s paired with Garmin Connect (Android). When creating some test activities on the device to test synchronization, I noticed that when activities are deleted on the device they still appear in Garmin Connect. Is this expected behaviour? Is this to allow users to reduce activities on the device but still have a complete view on the Connect app?
