Steps not recording when pushing a pram

Just been for a 5 mile walk pushing a pram. The activity was recorded however only the distance and calories were recorded with little to no steps. Disappointed to say the least. Surely this can be sorted and linked somehow to the GPS.

GPS cannot detect steps, but you can indeed measure the distance with GPS. Steps can be only detected thanks to the accelerometer sensor, and for that the hand (resp. the watch) has to have the possibility to sense the steps somehow. It can't, if it reposes on a fixed support, not transferring the shocks of the steps to it.

For having the steps counted while pushing a pram, you have several options:

    • push the pram with a single hand, leaving the one with the watch freely moving
    • keep the watch in the pocket (you can use a HRM belt if HR needed)
    • attach the watch to your ankle instead, it will measure the HR there too
    • tap with the hand wearing the watch on the handlebar in the rhythm of your steps
    • use simultaneously a pedometer such as the Garmin Vivoki linked to your Garmin Connect account
  • Cheers for that. It's a bugger though. I'll remember for next time
