WALKING activity change?

Using my Vivoactive 4 and Garmin's WALK INDOOR app, which is NOT the TREADMILL app.

The activity card in Garmin Connect changed since I did a WALK INDOOR yesterday (5/17).
Today (5/18) I did a WALK INDOOR and now it shows CADENCE which was not there yesterday.

And to make it totaly useless, the chart compares my steps per minute (SPM) to the percentage of RUNNERS that occupy each zone "to compare my performance". Walking vs Running performance? Huh?

Anybody else see this?

  • Well, as far as I see, there is no independent Walk Indoor category in Garmin Connect, just plain Walk. I suspect your indoor walk is registered as something else than Walk. Tap Edit Activity in the menu on the detailed activity screen, and change the Activity Type (not the name) to Walk. Or share a link to the activity, so that we can have a look at it.

  • Sorry, you are not following me.
The activity in GC is WALKING not WALK as you state, and has always been so.
Yes, the activity in GC is WALKING and I was simply providing the details of how it got there.
It was created by the Garmin WALK INDOOR activity on the watch, not the TREADMILL, or WALK (with GPS) apps..
And something changed in GC between yesterday and today.

  • Yes, sorry, you are correct Walking, not Walk, but it does not change anything on what I wrote. Verify under what Activity Type it is really recorded, and compare it with the previous indoor walks you did, when it was still in the old way. I suspect it is now recorded as Treadmill, or Run. I could tell you exactly if you shared the link to it. I do not think it is because of Garmin Connect - it still shows no cadence at Walking. More likely it is due to a change on the watch. I could also tell you, whether different firmware was used, if you shared the link to the activity.

  • How to share activity?

I will show you yesterday and today.

But they will both show recorded as WALKING.

  • Tap the share icon and select Share as Web Link

  • ... of there is no option "Copy to Clipboard" you may need to send it to yourself, because you cannot share it directly to the forum. Even easier is copying the URL of the activity when you view it in Garmin Connect Web, just you need to make it public first (through the padlock icon)

  • OK, I'll check it, but it may take a few minutes

  • So I verified the data, and everything is identical in both cases. No change on the device - same firmware, same build, same IQ apps, same original activity type. My last walk was recorded without cadence, so I logged a short walk just now, to check it again, and I see you are right - the Cadence is now there even at walks. Which finally is not that bad at all, personally I like it.

In Garmin Connect Web, you can suppress the graph, if you do not want it, but I think in the app you will have to live with it, unless Garmin decides to take it again away (which I would prefer not Slight smile )
