Pixel 4 XL failing to complete connect to Garmin Solar

I had no problem connecting my Pixel 4 XL to my Garmin Solar Instinct when I originally set it up and it worked fine with all notofications coming through until I sent my phone back to Google to have the battery issue with the Google Pixel 4 XL fixed at their expense since it was a known problem covered by warrenty.  The phone went off to Poland (their choice not mune) to be repaired and i received it back fixed a week later.

I restored my backup and then updated my various apps and permissions.

The only app I cannot back is the Garmin Connect.

I have followed all the suggestions on the Garmin Troubleshooting section, reinstalling, rebooting, ensuring Bluetooth is on and workig.

The phone sees the Garmin Solar Instinct which generates the 6 figure number which I type into the app and then the app screen changes to say Connecting your Instinct Solar at the top of the screen and at the bottom a progression bar completes about 1cm of progress then stops and the message below says Completing setup of your Instinct Solar device.  But then does not do anything else until it gives up and says Faiked to pair  and gives and option to Retry which results in another failure, etc etc

Garmin Support please advise how I am supposed to complete this or is this an issure with the PIXEL 4 XL.

This model of th Pixel XL is still current so should still be supported.

Any suggestions would be appreciayed. Thanks

There are plenty of tips in  the Sync / Connection Troubleshooting Guide, so check it out. Some of them should work for you too.

  • Thaks Trux I have gone through all the options you suggested on you previous contribution  https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-andriod/220202/sync-connection-troubleshooting-guide which is briliant but I still can't get it to connect.  I have updated the software on my watch, deleted and reinstalled the app several times, gone through all the permissions on my phone and on the watch and I get as far as the screen saying completing but then no further???  When I enter the six numbers on thee app generated by the phone I have ticked the allow access to contacts but not the option about password contacing letters and numbers - I tried ticking this but it did not work either?

I have switched off both and left them off for a while, 5 minutes, to make sure the cache cleared but no difference?

Is there something obvious I am not doing because its so frustrating because when I did it the first time it took less than a minute to sort and now I am two hours in and no further forward.  Thanking you in advance for any suggestions.

  • Are you sure you did not previously pair the watch with the phone through the BT screen on the phone? If so, then remove it from there first, before trying to pair with Garmin Connect. Also, if you paired the watch with other BT devices (phone, tablet, PC, ...), make sure they are not in reach, or that they are turned off. And similarly, if you have another Garmin device already in the Garmin Connect account, remove, or retire it.

  • What is th BT screen (sorry if that is a dumb question?)

From memory I have only ever connected it via the Garmin Connect app and its not connected to anything else.

I just went back through your Guide and checked out the FIT files but there are no files in the //GARMIN/Activity folder - when I did the software update it saaid thee was not enough space to update so would remove oldest files first which may have cleared it - not sure?

  • What is th BT screen (sorry if that is a dumb question?)

Sorry for the abbreviation. I meant the Bluetooth devices in Android settings

  • I just went back through your Guide and checked out the FIT files

If I understand it well, you cannot even pair the device. So it is s a little bit different problem than not being able to sync already paired device. If the device is not paired, the FIT files are unlikely to have any impact - that could be a reason if you could not sync an already paired watch.

  • For the pairing issue, you can also have a look at this document:

  • Doh I am a plonker can't believe I asked the question now I know the answer - thank you.

I did try to connect through the BT screen after everything else failed but it does not show up there.

Just disconnected the phone from the USB and its says there is a software update so I m installing that now - I had updated it earlier but this must be another or its taken this time to download or make itself known to the watch??

Its just completed the update and now shows up in the BT window as available but I have not paired it. there.  I have just tried again to pair it to the phone but its still only going as far as before after I put in the 6 numbers it says connecting but goes no further?

  • Yes thanks done all this still no joy but thanks again for your help - its going to be something really simple but I am struggling to work it out??

  • I am not sure if I understand - are you pairing it now from the Android Bluetooth devices menu, or through the Garmin Connect Mobile app? If the watch appears among the paired devices on the Android Bluetooth devices screen, remove it from there. And then pair only using Garmin Connect. Also please note, that you cannot have the watch connected with the USB cable when trying to pair it over Bluetooth!
