Is it possible to deliver heart rate to the Garmin Edge from another app on the Garmin device?

I have a custom heart rate monitor device that can deliver heart rate samples to a custom app running on the Garmin bike computer.

What I can't figure out how to do is get that heart rate value into the Garmin software to show on the main display.

Is this even possible? If so, how would I approach the solution?

How does the HR monitor send the data to the Edge and how does the custom app work?

Here's what I'm trying to do.

The custom heart rate monitor uses Bluetooth but it is a Bluetooth central, not a Bluetooth peripheral so it can not connect like a normal heart rate monitor. The app acts as the Bluetooth peripheral running on the Edge. The custom app on the Garmin would advertise as a Bluetooth peripheral for the heart rate monitor to find and connect to as a Central. Once connected, the heart rate monitor sends heart rate to the app on the Garmin.

Assuming all of this works as described, how does the heart rate that has gotten to the custom app on Garmin get delivered to the Garmin as heart rate (i.e. as it would in the case of connecting to a normal Bluetooth peripheral device?
