Auto LiveTrack disabled, still goes on every time

Hello Everyone,

It is a Samsung Android phone and a FR 245 Music.

Months ago, I set up LiveTrack, it works nicely. HOWEVER... Once I turned on Auto Start of LiveTrack (toggle switch in the Android app). Then, some days later, I decided to tturn it off and have LiveTrack started manually when I want to. (Android app menu: Safety and Tracking: LiveTrack page)

The switch is off, but still, as soon as I start an activity (running or walking), "LiveTrack started" appears on my watch.

I'm unable to turn off this auto start. Am I missing something?

It is funny that most people have problems enabling auto start of LT, while I cannot disable it!

Thank you for reading!

  • Try turning it on and off again. Make sure it saves on each change.

  • Tried that. I even made a full sync to the watch after turning LiveTrack on on the phone, then another full sync after tuning it off. Same way: as soon as I start an activity, some 5-6 secs later "livetrack started" comes up.

Can it be turned on/off on the watch somewhere? (Couldn't find it myself.)

  • I've looked for it in my watch, but can't find any settings. It is only in the app.

  • Thanks for trying!

I'm thinking about contacting Garmin support.

  • I'm having the same issue. Turned it on for a few friends and family while I ran my first marathon.  I turned off auto start and removed my contacts but it still sends a text to EVERYONE every time I run or bike with my phone nearby. So embarrassing.

  • Do a test and add yourself and then start an activity and see what happens.

I also thought about Strava Beacon. It can also send links to contacts. Have you checked that it isn't Beacon that send messages? It is integrated with LiveTrack so it shouldn't work without it, but who knows what can go wrong...

  • Garmin has been unable to solve this. I contacted them almost 4 weeks ago. They were very polite, I must add.

Strangely, they checked back some 2 weeks later if I still experience the issue. Hell yes, because you Garmin haven't done anything about it.

Today I decided to do a "Delete data and reset settings" (System menu). Before doing it, I made a video about scrolling thru (almos) all the watch menu. I should have done a video, or at lest some screenshots, on the phone itself (Connect Mobile), to record the watchface and datafield settings.

Only Garmin Express remembers what was installed on the watch (widgets, datafields etc), but not the settings.

I need some days to get the settings (sort of) back.

BUT: LiveTrack does not start automatically.

  • Thanks for the tips e7andy.  I did check Strava Beacon, and also not on or connected to my Garmin.  Also checked my actual Garmin watch (Fenix 6s) to make sure there wasn't something on in the settings.  Nothing.  Strangely, my contacts are not even listed in the livetrack now, but it still sends texts?  I am thinking I sent a live event sharing in order to send texts rather than email and it has just somehow locked it down.

  • Yes, that one last measure of hope, the reset button.  Ugh, this is a newer watch and I finally have it setup like my old watch, but I suppose that will be the answer.  Thanks for letting me know it worked for you.  Now the question, do I dare turn this on again at my next "event"?  We shall see.
